Pestana Carvoeiro is a two-course golf resort in the countryside just north of Carvoeiro. Gramacho, designed by Ronald Fream with Nick Price, is a par-72 layout through valleys and rocky terrain, while Vale da Pinta, Fream's par-71 from 1992, winds between ancient olive and carob trees and is often considered the stronger of the two. The two clubhouses are only about a kilometre apart.

You get the golf academy on your doorstep, a free internal shuttle and breakfast from 7am, and rooms start from about €56 a night on Pestana's own website, with studios and one and two-bedroom apartments for groups. Its 7.8 on Booking.com is a little lower than the rest of this list, but nothing else is this close to the first tee.

Pestana Carvoeiro green fees and what to know before you play
Gramacho and Vale da Pinta share the same green fees. Pestana's price list shows €93 for 18 holes in low season (December, January and June to August), €145 in high season (November, February, May and September) and €167 in premium season (March, April and October). Twilight rounds from 3.30pm cost €50, and a buggy is €55. The Gramacho course page shows lower seasonal rates, so check the price when you book.
In summer, look out for Pestana's special: two players with a shared buggy from €44 each, also valid at Silves Golf. You need a handicap of 27 or lower for men and 35 for ladies; read more in do you need a handicap to play golf in the Algarve.
